Nick LE BRUN

Centre for Molecular and Structural Biochemistry - University of East Anglia

Nick gained his PhD in 1993, and continued his research through Wellcome Trust and subsequently EMBO Fellowships, the latter at Lund University, Sweden. In 1999 Nick was appointed as Lecturer in biological chemistry at UEA, and worked his way to full Professor in 2011. Since 2014, Nick has been Chair of the Royal Society of Chemistry's Inorganic Biochemistry Discussion Group (IBDG), which promotes interests of bioinorganic chemists in the UK/internationally. In 2018 Nick was the recipient of the RSC's Joseph Chatt Award. He is currently Head of Chemistry at UEA.

Marc FONTECAVE

Collège de France - PSL University

Marc Fontecave became Docteur d’Etat in 1984 from the University P. et M. Curie, Paris. He went as a post-doc to the Department of Biochemistry at Karolinska Institute (1985-1986) and then spent 20 years as Professor of Chemistry at University Joseph Fourier, Grenoble, France (1989-2009). He is Professor at Collège de France, Paris, and Director of the Laboratory of Chemistry of Biological Processes. He is a member of the French Academy of Sciences and of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. His reserach interests cover catalysis and biocatalysis, bioinorganic and bioinspired chemistry, artificial photosynthesis and energy storage technologies (water splitting and CO2 valorization).

The Meyer Group

Franc MEYER

Institut für Anorganische Chemie - Georg-August-Universität Göttingen

Franc Meyer earned his Ph.D. with Peter Paetzold at RWTH Aachen (1993, boron chemistry) and was a postdoc with Peter Armentrout at the University of Utah (gas phase guided ion beam studies). On returning to Germany, he completed his Habilitation at the University of Heidelberg in 2000 and became Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Göttingen in 2001. He is a member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences, the Royal Physiographic Society in Lund, and the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. His group’s research focuses on the bioinspired activation of small molecules, on biorelevant proton-coupled electron transfer reactivity and on cooperative effects in bimetallic complexes.

Elizabeth NOLAN

Department of Chemistry - Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Liz Nolan is a Professor of Chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her research group investigates the bioinorganic chemistry of the host-microbe interaction and infectious disease. She is a recipient of awards that include the 2016 Eli Lily Award in Biological Chemistry from the American Chemical Society, a 2017 Presidential Early Career Award in Science in Engineering (PECASE), and the 2016 MIT School of Science Teaching Prize for Graduate Education.

Clotilde POLICAR

Ecole Normale Supérieure - PSL University - Sorbonne Université

Trained in organic, inorganic and physical chemistry at université Paris-Saclay, Clotilde Policar specialized in bio-inorganic chemistry. Professor at the Ecole Normale Supérieure—Paris Sciences et Lettres (ENS-PSL) since 2008, she has set up a group in bioinorganic chemistry, inorganic biological and cellular chemistry that works on the study of inorganic compounds in biological environments, with a focus on complexes that mimicks anti-oxidant proteins and on unconventional imaging (IR and X-fluorescence, with the design of metal-based probes). She chaired the French national network in bio-inorganic chemistry (FRENCHBIC) from 2010 to 2015 and is president elect of the SBIC.

Gerard ROELFES

Stratingh Institute for Chemistry - University of Groningen

Gerard Roelfes obtained his PhD (2000) from the University of Groningen under supervision  of Prof. Ben L. Feringa, in a joint project with the group of Prof. Lawrence Que Jr. (Univ. Minnesota), in whose lab he carried out part of the work. After his PhD he went for a post-doctoral stay with Prof. Donald Hilvert at the ETH-Zürich (Switzerland). In 2003 he returned to the University of Groningen, where he rose through the academic ranks and now is Full Professor of Biomolecular Chemistry & Catalysis. His research interests are enzyme design, bio-orthogonal catalysis and catalysis in living cells.

Maxie ROESSLER - Eurobic medal 2022

Imperial College London

Maxie completed her PhD in 2012 with Fraser Armstrong at the University of Oxford, became a Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London in 2013 and moved to Imperial College as Senior Lecturer in 2019. Her research explores what information unpaired electrons can provide on the mechanisms of complex redox reactions, such as those underpinning bioenergetic enzymes in respiration and photosynthesis. She is currently director of the Centre of Pulse Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Spectroscopy at Imperial College (PEPR) and Vice-President for Europe of the International EPR Society.

The Roithova Group

Jana ROITHOVA

Department of Spectroscopy and Catalysis - Institute for Molecules and Materials - Radboud University Nijmegen

Jana Roithová graduated at Charles University in the Czech Republic (1998). Her PhD thesis focused on reaction dynamics (2003) and she learned mass spectrometry techniques with Prof. Schwarz (Berlin). In 2007-2018, she served as a lecturer and then professor at the Charles University. Since 2018, she holds a chair in spectroscopy and catalysis at Radboud University in the Netherlands. She develops techniques to study reaction mechanisms, with a particular focus on reactive intermediates in metal-catalysed reactions.
